Die Braut von Korinth
Pencil on Paper, 2015
£4,500
The title of this piece comes from the Goethe poem ‘Bride of Corinth’ and is part of the artists series about national identity appropriating the symbolism of landscape. It is a portrait of Martin Luther who became one of the key players in the Holocaust. His head has disappeared into a landscape drawing after the 19th century german romantic painter Caspar Friedrich.
This is a drawing of Himmler and the Watzmann Mountain by Caspar Friedrich.
This juxtaposition alludes to national identity appropriating the emotional registers of the natural landscape.
