Kunsty the Clown
2014, c-type print with gold acrylic paint
£1,700
This image has come from one of the Artist’s actionist performances where he dresses as a clown and has shaving foam ‘custard pies thrown at him. This comical and dark performance echoes the ritualistic work of the artist’s mentor the Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch. The symbol of the clown is also one of the most contradictory of our much loved child-heroes. Both melancholy and tragic as well as funny and ridiculous, the clown is the jester or the fool of Shakespeare and the Royal Court. Kunsty is an affectionate diminutive of the german word for ‘art’ – Kunst.
