The Swing Headless
Screen print with gold leaf – edition of 30 plus 2 APs
£1890 (inc VAT)
This print is inspired by the artist’s sculpture of the same name, which is in turn is reflective of the Fragonard painting of a girl on a swing. this image is an absurdist interpretation with the artist’s eponimous traditional african fabrics now placed around a field of balloons or perhaps eggs, where the foliage once was. The artist makes interventions into traditional art and image making from an African perspective. He often detournes works with African fabrics and places incongruous characters in historical contexts to highlight the inequality of our colonial past. This is a sneak preview of a new print that will be launched at the Royal Academy this summer to coincide with his new commission.
