Fairy tales are metaphors and moral barometers as well as engaging and entertaining stories which have been passed down through tradition over the ages and across cultures. Folk tales, fables, myths and legends are all cousins of the fairy tale. Fairy tales contain the extremes of emotions, of hopes and fears as well as prejudice, discrimination and moral outrage. They evoke basic elements of trade, action, social structures and hierarchies, value systems, belief, spirituality, magic, romance as well as fear, danger, heroism and violence. They allow children to explore the complex minefield of these hopes, dreams and fears on a self-led journey. Fairy Tales are, in short, a perfect vehicle for our educational principles.
